The deal is made for love, which is what makes it hurt. Her husband can't give her a child, so a bargain is struck with an old man of monstrous virility and no particular kindness, and Meguri is handed over as a weekend substitute — Friday to Sunday, every week, until the job is done. JUR-872 frames it as duty, and then lets the duty grind her down.
What makes it sting is the old man's appetite. He isn't tender about it; he's greedy, tireless and faintly smug, and the film leans into the humiliation of a young wife being used as breeding stock by someone who clearly enjoys the arrangement more than she does. The weekends structure the whole thing — the dread of the Friday handover, the sore, spent Sundays, the drive home to a husband who asks how it went. Meguri plays the resignation beautifully, professional about it at first, then worn thin, then quietly hungry for it in a way that complicates everything.
The impregnation count keeps climbing until the title's promise is kept, and the final positive test lands like both a victory and a loss. If you like substitute-wife arrangements, wicked old men with stamina, and breeding drama with real emotional cost, JUR-872 is the one.
